    Setup

    7:00 a.m.–9:00 a.m.

    Unload the vehicle, carry equipment (sometimes over sand), prepare WASUP boards and help set up the Paddle Day. Tell an AFF leader if you need assistance or an alternate task.

    Check-In Tent

    9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

    Welcome volunteers and participants, help them check in and complete paper waivers, distribute wristbands and bracelets, and direct them to orientation. Welcome visitors and explain AFF after check-in. Keep at least one person at the tent at all times. Coordinate any move to beach help or buddy paddling with AFF and the required qualifications. AFF asks volunteers to help clean and pack equipment at the end of the event.

    Beach Volunteers

    9:15 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

    Help participants prepare to paddle, assist with sunscreen and life vests, observe beach and water safety, and help serve lunch. Welcome and engage participants waiting for their turn through conversation and appropriate beach activities. Follow AFF instructions and share any support you need. AFF asks volunteers to help clean and pack equipment at the end of the event.

    Buddy Paddler All Day

    9:15 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

    Flat-water SUP experience is required. Paddle alongside WASUP boards, keep pace and stay nearby for 45-minute sessions, and alert an AFF leader to any issues. Or assist a buddy participant on a standard SUP at their skill and comfort level, sitting on a board together or walking/paddling alongside near the shoreline. First-time AFF paddlers complete a test paddle before assisting participants. Stay for your entire shift. AFF asks volunteers to help clean and pack equipment at the end of the event.

    Photographer / Videographer / Editor

    9:15 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

    Capture action photos and video on and off the water. Action-photography experience is expected; editing skills are helpful. A GoPro or water-housed camera can help; drone use must follow applicable rules and AFF approval. AFF aims for a two-minute social-media video. Submit photos to AFF within 48 hours through the moderated photo-sharing page. The source specifies that photos are property of Adaptive Freedom Foundation. Follow AFF photo-consent instructions; submission does not automatically publish photos.

    Buddy Paddler Morning

    9:15 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

    Flat-water SUP experience is required. Paddle alongside WASUP boards, keep pace and stay nearby for 45-minute sessions, and alert an AFF leader to any issues. Or assist a buddy participant on a standard SUP at their skill and comfort level, sitting on a board together or walking/paddling alongside near the shoreline. First-time AFF paddlers complete a test paddle before assisting participants. Stay for your entire shift. AFF asks for help cleaning and packing equipment at the end of the event; this morning shift ends at noon.

    WASUP Paddlers

    9:15 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

    Strong calm-water paddleboard experience is required. You must be capable of paddling a WASUP adapted board with outriggers and an attached wheelchair. If you have not volunteered in this role before, contact AFF at (714) 465-6001 for approval. Stay for your entire shift. A saved shift is not approval to operate an adapted board.
